Castlemaine and Bendigo Heritage Visit

The West Seniors members had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Forest Creek Historic Gold Diggings, exploring many fascinating historical features of this world renowned goldfield.
At this site during the gold rush, miners sought to strike their fortune from the gravels of the ancient river bed.
Miner continued to work this site for gold well into the 20th century, with many interesting relics left for the members to see on their visit.
Some of the members tried to strike it rich by looking for gold however it was not their day.
The West Seniors members then visited the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion, a Buddhist monument near Bendigo.
A stupa (also known as a pagoda) is the most sacred building in Buddhism. The stupa symbolises the enlightened mind and the path to enlightenment.
